What a report covers
The checks that matter in a private sale.
Stolen
Whether the car is recorded as stolen.
Write-off & salvage
Insurance write-off category (such as Cat S or Cat N), and salvage auction records with a link to the original listing.
Mileage
Recorded mileage readings over time, and a flag if they ever go backwards.
MOT history
Passes, fails, advisories and when the next MOT is due.
Tax
Whether the car is taxed or SORN, and when tax is due.
Fair-price check
How the asking price compares with a typical private-sale value, where a valuation is available.
Seller message
A copyable message for Messenger or Gumtree based on what the check found.
Keeper count and plate changes are included where the data supplier provides them. A check can only show what is recorded; always view the car and the V5C logbook in person.

Questions buyers ask.
Is CheckFair live?
Not yet. We're finishing the service and getting supplier approvals. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when you can run a real check. Until then the only report on this site is a sample with made-up data.
What will a check cost?
From £4.99 per car, paid once. There's no subscription and no account to set up.
Where does the data come from?
From licensed UK vehicle data suppliers (for example finance, theft and insurance write-off registers) and from official MOT and tax records published under the Open Government Licence. Each report says where its data came from.
Is it the same as an HPI check?
No. CheckFair is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by HPI, Experian, the DVLA or the DVSA. It covers the same kind of risks a private buyer cares about: finance, stolen, write-off, mileage, MOT and tax.
Does a clear report mean the car is fine?
No. A check only shows what has been recorded. Always see the car in person, check the V5C logbook matches the seller and the car, look at the service history, and consider an independent inspection.
Will the seller know I checked?
No. We don't contact sellers or keepers, and the report never shows personal details of previous owners.
Do I need an app?
No. It works in your phone's browser, straight from the Marketplace or Gumtree listing.
